Chapter 30: Something Dreadful Shall Arise

Sibling Rane is a disciple of The Trawler-man faith from Paraclete's Gulch who acts as a confidante for Brother Faulkner.

Personality

Sibling Rane at first appears to be incredibly loyal and idealistic. They are a strong confidante and acolyte, and hold the respect of their peers. They have authority over many of the disciples under Faulkner at the Grand Aquifer. They also seem to be a good friend and protector, ensuring Faulkner's safety.

However, they also act in their own self interest - willing to lie in order to create the version of the truth that they want to preserve. This makes them seem incredibly similar to Faulkner.

Background

Not much is known of Sibling Rane's background.

Rane was raised in the faith, and seems to have grown up without much. Rane holds resentment for the Katabasian's Council and their privileges that they refuse to share with members of the faith.

Chapter 30: Something Dreadful Shall Arise	Rane drives with Faulkner back to the Gulch after his meeting with the Katabasians. Rane proves to be loyal to Faulkner in this interaction. Rane is horrified to hear that the Katabasians may want Faulkner dead.
Chapter 33: And Where Once Its Howling Forebears Walked	Rane keeps Faulkner updated on the search for the Grand Aquifer, and wider information about the Parish.
Chapter 35: The Wise Man Knows The Taste Of Rot	Rane tells Faulkner that the tide is the lowest they've ever seen. They also tell him that members of the faithful are questioning him. Rane shows Roemont around the Gulch and speaks highly of Faulkner, to Roemont's distaste. When asked for their honest opinion of Faulkner by Roemont, Rane appears confused.
Chapter 38: Shall Wither In Ruin And Rust	Rane and Faulkner break into a radio station. They remind Faulkner to recap the events that have taken place over the series to the faithful and warn Faulkner of the lawful authority's arrival. When they have left the radio station, they receive word that the Gulch has been attacked. They journey back to the Gulch and find no one remaining. Rane and Faulkner travel to Faulkner's childhood home, where they find Faulkner's Father. Rane gives Faulkner advice and tells him about the successful search for the Grand Aquifer. At the end of the episode, Rane saves Faulkner from drowning.
Chapter 42: I’ll Wheeze Through Splintered Teeth	Rane shows increasing concern about Faulkner, watching him closely. They ask for his help with Sister Cull and, following Faulkner's outburst, they tell Sister Cull to forget their conversation.
Chapter 43: One Last Song Of Revelations	Rane takes an emcee role, speaking to the Parish. They pressure Faulkner into behaving in the way that they want him to, including giving out the Wither Mark. They give Brother Philly the order to kill Shrue and Carpenter. They tell the Parish that Faulkner is unwell.
Chapter 44: Of Prophets' Dark Deceptions	Rane attempts to control the situation at the Grand Aquifer, telling the Parish that Carson on the radio is lying and telling Sister Cull to turn off the radio. They speak to Sister Cull and decide to have a conversation with Faulkner about the actions they should take next. Faulkner lures Rane into the Drowning Pools, promising that they will be baptised as a Katabasian. Instead, Faulkner drowns Rane.
